1

Bob loaned Charlie $400 at an annual interest rate of 4%. If no payments are made, what is the interest owed on this loan at the end of the first year?

74% Answer Correctly
$112
$16
$14
$50

Solution

The yearly interest charged on this loan is the annual interest rate multiplied by the amount borrowed:

interest = annual interest rate x loan amount

i = (\( \frac{6}{100} \)) x $400
i = 0.04 x $400
i = $16

2

4! = ?

84% Answer Correctly

5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1

4 x 3

4 x 3 x 2 x 1

3 x 2 x 1

Solution

A factorial has the form n! and is the product of the integer (n) and all the positive integers below it. For example, 5! = 5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 = 120.

3

What is (x3)3?

79% Answer Correctly
x0
x6
3x3
x9

Solution

To raise a term with an exponent to another exponent, retain the base and multiply the exponents:

(x3)3
x(3 * 3)
x9

4

What is 6\( \sqrt{5} \) x 3\( \sqrt{4} \)?

41% Answer Correctly
18\( \sqrt{5} \)
36\( \sqrt{5} \)
9\( \sqrt{20} \)
9\( \sqrt{4} \)

Solution

To multiply terms with radicals, multiply the coefficients and radicands separately:

6\( \sqrt{5} \) x 3\( \sqrt{4} \)
(6 x 3)\( \sqrt{5 \times 4} \)
18\( \sqrt{20} \)

Now we need to simplify the radical:

18\( \sqrt{20} \)
18\( \sqrt{5 \times 4} \)
18\( \sqrt{5 \times 2^2} \)
(18)(2)\( \sqrt{5} \)
36\( \sqrt{5} \)

On average, the center for a basketball team hits 30% of his shots while a guard on the same team hits 40% of his shots. If the guard takes 30 shots during a game, how many shots will the center have to take to score as many points as the guard assuming each shot is worth the same number of points?

42% Answer Correctly
40
41
25
23

Solution
If the guard hits 40% of his shots and takes 30 shots he'll make:

guard shots made = shots taken x \( \frac{\text{% made}}{100} \) = 30 x \( \frac{40}{100} \) = \( \frac{40 x 30}{100} \) = \( \frac{1200}{100} \) = 12 shots

The center makes 30% of his shots so he'll have to take:

shots made = shots taken x \( \frac{\text{% made}}{100} \)
shots taken = \( \frac{\text{shots taken}}{\frac{\text{% made}}{100}} \)

to make as many shots as the guard. Plugging in values for the center gives us:

center shots taken = \( \frac{12}{\frac{30}{100}} \) = 12 x \( \frac{100}{30} \) = \( \frac{12 x 100}{30} \) = \( \frac{1200}{30} \) = 40 shots

to make the same number of shots as the guard and thus score the same number of points.
