To raise a term with an exponent to another exponent, retain the base and multiply the exponents:

A factor is a positive integer that divides evenly into a given number. For example, the factors of 8 are 1, 2, 4, and 8.

If 76% of the town's 17,000 voters cast ballots the number of votes cast is:

(\( \frac{76}{100} \)) x 17,000 = \( \frac{1,292,000}{100} \) = 12,920

The mayor got 80% of the votes cast which is:

(\( \frac{80}{100} \)) x 12,920 = \( \frac{1,033,600}{100} \) = 10,336 votes.
